Masti Mushroom Burger

Now this is an absolutely delicious burger.  Not only is it power packed with nutrients but with flavour as well…

Masti Mushroom Burger by Videhi

Preparation:               10 minutes

Cooking time:              20 minutes

Serves:                         3 – 4                                                                


1 tbsp olive oil – additional for frying burgers

½ small onion finely diced

250g mushrooms.  (Clean with paper towel and roughly chopped)

1 tsp freshly ground garlic

½ cup canned chickpeas drained.

1 heaped tbsp Cajun spice mix

1 cup fresh bread crumbs made from 2 slices of white bread

1 tbsp corn flour

2 tbsp freshly chopped coriander

1 tsp salt (add more or less)

Burger buns

Purple cabbage finely sliced


Sliced onion rings

Sliced tomato

Eggless mayonnaise

Tomato sauce

Sliced green chilli

Let’s cook 🙂

  • Heat oil in a hot pan. Add onions, cook for 2 minutes until soft.
  • Add mushroom and garlic, cook through, 8 – 10 minutes. Once cooked leave aside to cool.
  • In a bowl roughly mash chick peas, add in Cajun spice mix, bread crumbs, corn flour, coriander leaves, and salt as well as cooked mushroom. Gently mix all ingredients.  Divide mixture in 3 or 4 balls and flatten to form patties about 2.5 cm.
  • Fry burgers on medium heat +/- 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Assemble burger
